Mindful Smack: Why Meditate?

Elena Brower Headshot Dec082012

Why meditate? Meditation helps me to respond with elegance instead of react. Sitting regularly helps me see that I host tension in my body, and helps me be more easeful in my skin. Meditation keeps me kind, more patient, more sweet with everyone around me, and helps me remember that a more relaxed internal state… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: May We Love Ourselves!

Elena Brower Headshot Dec082012

This simple prayer is for all of us. May we all know, at the deepest levels, our own value, our own beauty, our own sufficiency and our own worth. May we today turn to ourselves and to the people who love and support us for the nourishment that we need. May we avoid all habit,… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: Defining Prayer!

Elena Brower Headshot Dec082012

W.H. Auden defines prayer as a way to pay “careful and concentrated attention to something other than our own constructions.” May we make everything a prayer, our interactions, conversations, ways of listening, relationships. May it all be a prayer. ### Elena Brower is the founder and co-owner of VIRAYOGA in NYC. Elena’s writings and teaching schedule can… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: Work Backwards!

Elena Brower Headshot Dec082012

Now that January is coming to a close, here are three super useful reminders about your resolutions and how to make them stick, with love. 1. Work backwards. From the perspective of December 2013, what happened this year? What were you proud of? What was accomplished? 2. Tell EVERYONE: Post, friends, family, everyone. Let them… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: Pure Presence!

Elena Brower Headshot Dec082012

I’ve been trying to figure out how to shift negativity out of my mind, out of my life. I’ve found that I’m perpetuating complaints, frustration and anger by giving them reckless voices without consciously choosing how I express myself. If I can do it while I’m teaching, what do I need to know to do… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: 3 Words – Tell The Truth!

Elena Brower Headshot Dec082012

Only 3 words. Tell The Truth. Make this your mission this year. Whatever you think you have to keep secret, and anything you’re working on, especially your New Year’s promises – tell as many people as possible, so we can feel your freedom and encourage your efforts. It’s beautiful to tell the truth, and it’s… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: Mastering Momentum!

elenabrower3

We know what it feels like to be speeding in a direction we haven’t really chosen. That momentum, the force behind any action – especially destructive or negative – can be used to see, feel, acknowledge and heal. Watch where your momentum is and move it in a healing direction. Mindful Smack: Mastering Momentum –… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: The Only Response!

elenabrower3

“Forgiveness is the only sane response.” No matter how much resistance I feel to this concept, presented by Marianne Williamson in A Course in Miracles, the more I practice forgiveness, the more I see that FORGIVENESS is the only way to initiate the process of healing. Mindful Smack: The Only Response – Elena Brower for… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: Own It!

elenabrower3

If you’re sensing any weirdness in your family, OWN YOUR PART in it. However small, you’ve made a contribution to that weirdness, and once you own it, things will shift for you in the most unexpected ways. And expect nothing in return – just own your part. Whenever I feel off, once I own my… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack: Defining Love!

elenabrower3

Thank you Erich Schiffmann for redefining LOVE for us – from a recent talk of his at the Ojai Yoga Crib. LOVE is a willingness to recognize what is REAL. Let’s release our assumptions and assessments, and LOVE just by seeing, not trying to change, but truly seeing. An important invitation.   Defining Love from Elena… Continue Reading →

Mindful Smack – Sweetness!

elenabrower3

Instead of just being sweet to the folks we most want to impress, let’s cultivate sweetness, for everyone and every circumstance, together. Even when we have to be firm and clear, may we find sweetness in our communications both internally and externally. I find I’m great when I’m doing what I “want” to be doing,… Continue Reading →
