As Einstein said, there are two ways to look at the world: as though everything is a miracle or as if nothing is a miracle. He deduced that we can’t pick and choose if one thing is a miracle and something else isn’t based on the limits of human reason, we have these choices.
Another way to put this is that we have two perceptions through which to look out at the world with: Love or fear. There are the basic two lenses that we can see the world with. And it is impossible to look with the eyes of Love and think a fearful thought and it is impossible to look with the eyes of fear and think a Loving thought.
Love = a miracle. Fear = no miracles.
So, today, July 4th in America is about celebrating our independence. We liberated ourselves from an oppressive force that didn’t want us to be free. We took our power back and created a free country where we have a basic human right to pursue our own happiness.
For us to truly pursue happiness, whether we are in America, or somewhere else – we must look out at life through the eyes of Love.
Happiness is not something to attain “out there” it is something we cultivate “in here”. Happiness is not something we take – it is something we give. Happiness is not something we can buy – it transcends material objects. There are plenty of “rich” people who are miserable and plenty of “poor” people who are happy. This is not about creating outer wealth.
When we look out into the world with the eyes of Love, we are able to meet even the most difficult of circumstances with peace, equanimity and yes, even gratitude. When we look at other people with the eyes of Love we realize that if they are being “negative” in any way, it is simple a call for Love which they are lacking in their lives. This helps us to take a step back and Love them, instead of hate and resent them.
Since we have a choice between Love (miracle) and fear (no miracle) that means we are in two different states. The first state is the state of Love, where we bring more Love onto the planet. The second state is a state of fear, where we are feeling a lack of love and all our actions are simply calls and pleas for Love to enter our lives. Many times we do not know how to get this deep need for Love met, and because we are so empty of Love, we think the world is empty. But nothing could be further from the truth.
The world is a mirror that will give back to us what we bring to it. We have the choice in this moment to choose to see a miracle or not. Miracles happen all the time; we are simply not seeing them. Is your break-up a disaster or grace? You lost your job – miracle or disaster? A loved one is sick or has recently died – miracle or disaster? You just encountered a major setback – miracle or disaster?
We have the privilege to be able to choose in every moment how we interpret the events of our lives, which directly relates to whether we are experiencing happiness in this moment or not.
Today, on Independence Day in America, let us declare our independence from fear and from the lack we think we are experiencing. Let us see EVERYTHING in our lives as a miracle and filled with grace. Let us bring to each situation what we feel is missing from it. Let us believe into life what we want to create and then take action from that place of belief. Let us proclaim we will no longer be fear’s bitch and instead take our power back and live life fully from a place of love.
When we judge people, when we see lack, we are buying into fear; instead, let us take a step back and let our pursuit of happiness be an inward experience.
This is the journey we are called to in this moment in time. The inward journey to see everything in life as a teacher, a sign and a circumstance guiding us back to our own power, our own choice and our own ability to truly be what we seek. Not just when things are easy, but ESEPCIALLY when things are tough. This is our call.
Have a Happy Fourth!
