Do You Have The Understanding?

trinkaThe other night I had another spiritual experience (a moment where the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I could feel the divine nature of things). I was watching an HBO special called Vice, a documentary that included the Harlem Globetrotters. In it, they had been invited to North Korea and it was a pretty spooky experience, as the documentary relays. Like many interviews and footage from North Korea, much of it had been staged for them. They had been invited into a beautiful supermarket but noticed that they were the only people in that market and when they went up to the cash register to buy something, they were not able to buy it. What was absolutely spiritual in nature was the emotional response of every one of the Harlem Globetrotters had when they were sharing their experience of the trip. Not one of them sat in judgment; every single one was optimistic, as though each of the Globetrotters understood that the bright side of things was completely obvious.

At one point they talked the driver of the van into pulling over at a park where they saw a lot of children playing. They got out of the van and they did their fancy footwork, like only the Harlem Globetrotters can. And as I watched them perform for the children, the mothers, the families in that park, I saw absolute elation in the smiles on the faces of both the the small children and the grown adults.

It was a moment in time when every person had an understanding that we were all one, and everyone put away their prejudices. I was gifted in the ability to see everyone as one enjoying that moment, sharing the thrill and the joy of watching these athletes enjoy their skill, and their ability to entertain and bring joy. This courage to change from separation to oneness, and really understanding this as truth, is really a miracle.

Those Harlem Globetrotters have an understanding and a spiritual approach to their gifts, and that makes all the difference in the world. Since I see the deep desire for understanding so frequently, in my own life and also in the lives of those in my practice, this experience of watching people understand our oneness was profound for me. So, you and I may not be as fancy-footed as the Harlem Globetrotters, or we may not be as skilled as our next door neighbor, even. But what we all have in common is the ability to look at our gifts, the thing we are meant to do in the world, from a place of understanding that we are all one and there is no separation.

What gift do you possess that you can turn into sharing? How can you participate with the oneness today, even when it may seem like the deck is stacked against you? All it takes a shift in perception.

Love,

Trinka
