I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Love. I mean, duh…
But one of the things I’ve been thinking about is where we get our Love from – as in, what is the Source of our Love? And what keeps coming up for me is that so many of my clients and readers have outsourced their Love to other people, a job, money or their reputation. And when we do this – we set ourselves up for MASSIVE, and I mean MASSIVE pain and disappointment.
Why is this? Even if you were in a relationship with Mother Teresa or Gandhi, they still wouldn’t be able to give you PERFECT Love. No human being is capable of Loving you perfectly; this includes yourself. No job will last forever. Money comes and goes. When are you in a room with 1000 people, you have 1000 reputations that are all outside of your control. It just doesn’t work.
What I am about to propose about what I believe we should be getting our Love from is not a religious statement. It’s a pragmatic statement. I claim no religious affiliation per se, though Jesus IS my homeboy! :O)
Before I get into it, I would invite you to consider an analogy. Imagine yourself a drop of ocean water. When you are a part of your Source, you can be a wave and be a part of something that is larger than you. When you are separate from your Source, you are not as powerful and eventually you will dry up. That is how I view Love.
Our Source, where we came from, is The Uni-verse. When we look to The Uni-verse for our Love – and take our eyes off of other people, money, status, etc. – we step into the realm of magic. We can let people off the hook because we know that they are not the Source of our happiness. Instead, the Source, our Source, is The Uni-verse. When we take our eyes off of other people, we allow them to be the imperfect human beings that they are, and at the same time, take them off the hook for our happiness. We remember that they are doing the best that they can and that they are showing us who they truly are.
So the idea is to remember your Source, which is The Uni-verse. When you do this, you step into a new realm where anything is possible. We step into ATTRACTION instead of chasing. We can let go and trust that everything is as it should be, and then YES I am a co-creator with The Uni-verse and, at the same time, I do not need to chase. I will listen to the gentle nudges within myself and trust that these nudges, even if they are nudges out into the unknown, out into uncertainty, that these nudges are truer that anything I see in the outside world. When you trust this, you can show up and actually begin to BE the presence of Love in other people’s lives, instead of only needing them to be Love for you. We can step out of fear, doubt and worry and know that we are always provided for, even when, and especially when, we can’t see a way ahead. When we are connected to and trusting in The Uni-verse, we see that a way is made from no way. We see that we are supported and what looked like a disaster is actually a HUGE gift. And we become grateful for that gift knowing that we are connected to our Source and what other people do does not define or contribute to how happy we are.
Now let me be clear, this is a master lesson in life. This isn’t something you just read in a blog and get right away – this takes practice, this takes effort and dedication and a constant letting go of the known and a constant YES to the unknown. This is how transformation works. This is how we find the Love within ourselves and become so full that we can share it with the world. And when we start to do that – the true magic really begins!
So, where is your current source of Love today? Is it in a person, a job, a bank account, a piece of clothing or a status? What would your life look like if you made the Source of Love in your life The Uni-verse? Who would you let go of? Who or what would you say yes to? Let us know!
