If You Were A Boat, Would You Stay In The Harbor?

Jenna Phillips headshotWe are CONTROL freaks. We’re huge fans of knowing every possible detail before making our next move. The “unknown” is a scary place. That’s why many of us are afraid to die – we just aren’t sure what happens on the other side.

We have our own faith, based upon our own personal belief system, and since you’re a Daily Lover – I’m sure you feel like the spiritual realm of The Uni-verse is probably the most magical place to be.

But since we’re Spiritual Beings having a Human Being experience – let’s bring it back to planet earth.

We love to get set, get ready, prepare, wait some more, and then GO when we feel like it’s the perfect time to do most things (vacations, professing our love, business ventures, or starting our workout regimen). Our Ego tells us we just aren’t ready for blind leaps of faith.

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

The thought of just GOING for it can be scary sometimes. But, it’s in the “unknown” where all the JUICY stuff in life happens (you know, outside of our comfort zone).

Leaving the shore of our happy, little island can feel daunting but boats weren’t made to stay and hang out in shallow waters. They were built to explore our vast oceans and discover hidden treasures.

It’s easy to come up with a thousand reasons to NOT do something. We like to talk ourselves out of conquering missions or slaying metaphorical dragons so we don’t “eff up” or look like an idiot.

Forget about the ENDLESS excuses to not make our next move, because all we need is ONE reason to make the perfect time be RIGHT NOW. That one reason is our mission, our purpose, or our commitment to creating the life we’re meant to have.

All we will ever have is the present moment. There is no such thing as tomorrow and someday doesn’t exist on the calendar. If you keep waiting for the right time for anything, the right time may never come.

Just GO and figure it out while you’re in motion. Don’t wait for someone to hand-deliver a parachute to you before you go skydiving. Make your own!

In fact, jump out of the plane and sew one on your way down. Just freaking jump already!

Time. Life. Your existence. It all goes by in an instant. The Uni-verse WANTS you to take risks and TRUST that everything will work out. If you never fall down and scrape your knees, you’re playing the game of life in slow motion.

Yawn………..

Life is happening NOW. Right now. In this moment. There is no better time than right this very second to make the choice to do something you’ve never EVER done before.

As soon as you decide to shift gears and change lanes, your whole environment begins to change. You begin to discover newness about yourself and your breakthrough is actually in THIS moment – not tomorrow or next week. The very second that you commit to having a brand new experience, said new experience begins to take place.

Shoot and THEN aim – not the other way around. Life gets complicated only in our thoughts and “head stories”. We can handle just about anything, and The Uni-verse delivers it all to us in a timely manner. You can always course-correct as you navigate yourself through life.

Don’t wait for life to happen for you. Because it won’t. YOU are what happens to life! (Tweet-worthy!)

Love all that is you,
Jenna xox

Just what I needed to read this morning. In August I will be moving to China to teach in an international American school. I was talking to a friend that I hadn’t seen in years and he kept telling me that I shouldn’t leave my great life here in Chicago and that I won’t like it because it’s not vacation. What he said is bothering me because I often wonder if I am making a mistake and what if I am miserable in China. I realize that I must not think dwell on the what ifs and continue with my journey. Thank you for your words.
