Miss-Understanding Gratitude? Focus On What IS!

chrisassaadGratitude is one of those words that gets used a lot in many modern spiritual teachings, but which often fails to really capture the experience to which it points. Even with the helpful, practical suggestions that many have offered for creating abundance and deeper levels of fulfillment in our lives, the actual experience and proposed benefits can often evade us.

This has certainly been the case with me, up until very recently.

I’ve tried making gratitude lists and I always begin and end my prayers by giving thanks for all the goodness in my life and yet, I have never seen the practices permeate my life beyond the time I spend doing them.

I had a revelation about this recently in a conversation with my good friend and inspiring artist, Alisha Z. In this week’s video blog, I share about what I discovered and the major impact it has had on my overall state of happiness and sense of fulfillment since.

If you can relate to the experience of understanding the benefits of gratitude intellectually but not really getting it or having a firsthand breakthrough in practicing it, this vlog is for you.

Thanks for watching!

Much love,

Hello Chris, thank you very much for the Vlog! It definitely struck home and this week I have 3 dinners catching up with really close friends that I am definitely going to be mindful on this with during that time. I have definitely predominately spoke of my lack in previous heart-to-heart conversations and afterwards felt dried up and guilty for laying all of my own sense of lacking on a friend as if I am expecting them to fix me. For the past 2 weeks now, I have been on the listening side of this with a close friends and it’s been really revealing of what that feels like! I too have struggled with the idea of expressing/showing/acknowledging gratitude and what that looks like for me. Your suggestion definitely has sparked hope in me and I will be putting it into practice right away. Thank you for sharing! <3

    • Chris Assaad

Theresa, thank you for sharing your experience so openly. Sounds like you’ve got some great new awareness which will sure make it possible for new choices and a new experience to emerge. Intending your dinners this week as practice is a great place to start! Your hope makes me happy 🙂

Hello Australia! Happy that you are in a place that you love! Grateful for your experience! Gratitude is definitely a way of life. Not just at bedtime or during our prayers but in each step we take and in the words we use. Totally, completely , undeniably grateful.
Sometimes a big heart makes us carry the weight of the world on our shoulders leaving us asking how can I do more? How can I help more?
The music pouring out from within. The mountains. The trees. The cool summer breeze. The smell of the ocean, lemons, and oranges. This won-der-filled moment relating to life. My sisters, my mother,my dad’s widowed wife. How could I not of understood, the heart was a sign a sign that I should. Believe in it all, believe what is real. God loves us, no matter how we may feel. There is a plan. Just grab on and be safe. Heart shine will guide you. Thank you- oh thank you dear ones. We are all soul mates. If we cross paths its true. Remember dear soul I was meant to meet you.

Thankful for courage and following through. Thankful for TDL! thankful for you! Great blog today! Grateful, sure why not. The moments, the gifts, the lessons should never be forgotten. Greet each morning w/ a sweet how do you do and dance into the light letting your heart guide you through! Enjoy some of that Australian atmosphere for me and know that you are fine of a kind! Happily, Carie

This was wonderful Chris. I am also working on gratitude as a way of continuous being in my life. It’s true our words and thoughts have power and expand or constrict our consciousness thus creation. This was great especially the part of how we connect with others. I caught myself doing the same thing. Focusing on what i don’t have. Whatever we think about expands.
Great vlog once again. Today I will be more aware of my thoughts.

  • WeDrum

Everyday I see examples of how God works in mysterious ways – so thank you Chris… I needed this today. For someone that understands the importance of gratitude and spreading goodness in the world I too have found myself focusing on the “lack” or what hasn’t happened yet in my life. So thanks for pointing out the very thing I’ve been doing! I’m blessed to have been introduced to TDL over the summer and just today came across your blog and video. 🙂 Proud to say that your words of inspiration will also become a part of my daily routine. Sending you good thoughts and blessings!
