Real Love Is Given Freely, Stop Trying To Earn It!

A Daily Lover emailed me and said, “Mastin, what’s all this talk about Grace, what IS Grace anyways?”

It’s a valid question and one I’ve talked about before, but it’s 2012 – and TDL has been blessed with many more readers since my last blog on Grace, so in this blog I’m going to do my best to break down what the heck Grace is.

Grace is something that has been talked about for a long time. It’s all over the Bible – but it’s not a Christian or even a religious thing. It’s just something that happens in Life, like Karma (cause and effect), Synchronicity or Gravity. All these things exist and we don’t know exactly what they are; they are still mysterious to us, but we are starting to understand more and more.

For the sake of this blog, I’m going to make an assumption that there is a Creative and Benevolent Source that created us and binds us all together – and here at TDL we call that Source The Uni-verse. I’m not going to debate about this; if you don’t believe in a Creator, I’m not going to try to make you. But Grace is best described in context to a Creator – though you can experience Grace no matter what your beliefs ARE, because Grace doesn’t care what your beliefs are, Grace hooks you up nonetheless.

Grace by definition is “Favor or goodwill”. Favor by whom? Well, I’m going to say The Uni-verse. We were created by The Uni-verse to express our gifts and to collaborate with each other to help each other reach our highest expression of creative freedom. Each person has been created for a specific purpose and reason – and NO other person can fulfill this purpose other than YOU. In this way, we are all children of The Uni-verse and favored.

This is not something we have to earn. This is something that is given to us freely from a place of Love. And the cool thing about Grace is that Grace can cancel Karma. Karma is the law of cause and effect – every action creates and equal and opposite reaction. But that isn’t how Grace works. There is no action that requires Grace to come forth and there is no negative effect that Grace can’t stop.

The other thing that it’s important to remember is that from our limited point of view, we can’t always see in the moment what is best for us. So – what seems to be a total disaster can actually be Grace in action.

Sometimes our biggest problem is the greatest act of Grace. What seems like horror, terror or really bad luck is the event that we needed in order to heal our wounds, step out into our power and then use our experience, strength and hope to help other people come out of their darkness. Grace can feel like a soft feather and sometimes Grace can be a kick in the teeth (or worse). But over time and with enough practice, we can begin to see the dual nature of life playing itself out on the human plane and know that even in the worst of it, we are a Light in the world, and perhaps the purpose of all this darkness is the opportunity for us to discover our own Light.

  • Hey Mastin!

Just got caught in your web by watching your interview with Marie Forleo, subscribed by email and Twitter and would just like to say that I’m loving your essence and energy. Great stuff man!

    Loving the blog too 🙂

Interesting take on Grace. I’m trying to see the grace in my life and even though I’ve been through some
horrific events, it’s amazing how God has saved me when I watch those around me who may have been through similar things yet weren’t strong enough to make it through – maybe they never will? Is that part of their Grace? To be meek?
This saddens me like you wouldn’t believe. Some ppl don’t come out the other end, is this Grace Mastin?

Im trying to see my situation as Grace, but I’m not gonna lie – when I see those who didn’t make it through and all the help they get for being meek – I think it is so unfair, bcos when you are smart enough or strong enough ppl leave you in the lurch to work things out for yourself when it would have been nice to have gotten some help along the way. Does anyone love strong women anymore these days? Or is it just the meek ones that can’t do it alone that get love and care?

    Anyway….rambling on…..great post Mastin 🙂

  • It is good to remember that we can’t see the whole picture, all we can do is put our best out there into the world and trust (now, that’s hard) that grace is all over us and knows what it’s doing.

Beautiful.  The rules don’t apply to grace, to real love.  It goes against the grain, against the logic, and against all the “what we give is what we get”.  Grace is beyond us, beyond what we can understand or accomplish.  Thank God!

Thank you for this beautiful reminder….Grace is all around us, like the arms of God cradling us, we need to do nothing but be present in the embrace.
