At one point or another, you’ve felt like the big fish in a small pond. It feels good to be the Head Honcho or Queen Bee for a bit, and then you realize the only next thing to do is move on to deeper waters in the vast ocean.
The first swim in brand new waters feels awkward, uncomfortable, uncertain, yet astoundingly refreshing. A part of you, however, wants to crawl back to your happy place of familiar habit. Curling up in the throne that still has the outlines of your own butt sounds pretty nice, doesn’t it? Knowing that you left behind some pretty big shoes to fill makes you feel like a BOSS! And then you remember you’ve just started over.
Since the only constant is change, fighting it goes against the most basic laws of nature. You cannot go backward; you cannot live in the past. It just cannot be done. Life goes on, no matter how much we try to use the pause or rewind buttons on that Remote Control of Life that we SO wish we had.
NEWSFLASH – Stagnation equals stunted growth. When something stops growing, it usually dies. Your most primal instinct INSISTS upon survival of the fittest, so moving on you go – as scary as it may be. So, here you are – in this BIGGER space, feeling all small and powerless. We often play small to play it safe. The bigger we feel, the harder we THINK we can fall.
Well, just stop it! Quit thinking, being, playing or acting small. ‘Cause you’re not! You’re capable, possible, and full of all kinds of potential. You get to own that. You get to show those sharks what’s UP!
In this new territory your size hasn’t changed. The only part that has changed is your perspective. Nothing more, nothing less. Think about the Bible story of David and Goliath. Do you think size mattered there? Not so much. David’s determination brought down an entire giant with the precision of a stone hitting him in the “right” spot.
What about Gandhi? It’s safe to say that he changed the world. He was just one man, with an unwavering vision.
Mother Teresa – one woman.
Steve Jobs – one college dropout.
YOU – one very unique individual that can change the world in a whole new way. Quit playing small and step into your greatness. You don’t need anyone else to succeed. You don’t need a company to leverage you. You have all the tools you will ever need inside of you. Trust yourself and launch that stone at those massive obstacles. Don’t forget to aim high.
Love all that is you,
