Stop Searching And What You Are Seeking Will Find You!

Can I tell you a story? It’s a fun one, I promise!

Last weekend, a dear friend of mine invited me to a music festival an hour outside of Toronto. She was going to be there with a group of friends I hadn’t met and I planned to join them mid-day. I arrived and was instantly delighted with the familiar sights and sounds of people gathering in the name of music and love. The only challenge was that cell phones were of no avail and I had to locate my friend amongst thousands of people without a clue as to where she might be. I began looking around and after about twenty minutes of unfruitful searching, I could feel myself tensing up a little and running stories in my head that were not helping the cause.

Then I had an insight: “Stop looking and you will find them.” This struck me as an interesting and definitely counter-intuitive approach but since plan A wasn’t working, I decided to give it a shot. At that point, I was getting hungry so I decided to go for some food while I evaluated my options. I scoped a few concessions taking note of the homemade ice cream stand, which I knew I would be back to later, and got myself a wrap so I could walk and eat. A few bites in and a several paces later, I stopped to throw something out, I looked up and there was my friend standing right in front of me. We greeted each other, she introduced me to everyone and then she said: ”Hey! We were just going to get an ice cream, want one?”

As soon as I surrendered the “search” and decided to just go with the flow of the festival and be in the moment, I was guided right to the very place I wanted to be – yes, the ice cream! And my friend, too! Some would say that this was a coincidence and that life is just a collection of random, disconnected happenings and unfoldings.

Not me.

I believe that we are all connected and that there is a Divine plan of goodness for each and every one of us. I believe in synchronicity and in the unseen forces that come to our aid when we move out into action on behalf of our higher calling. And I believe in the power of believing and of having faith in a vision that is bigger than we are.

When we view life with the eyes of faith, when we connect to the greater forces that are at play in and around us, when we attune our senses to the Divine’s communications, life can be magical. There are so many manifestations of this daily in matters big and small and it’s often only a question of whether are not we are really looking and listening, Have you ever been in an emotional state, high or low, when the perfect song comes on and lets you know you are exactly where you are supposed to be? Have you ever looked up in a moment of deep contemplation and seen a billboard or ad with words that seemed to be the exact answer you were looking for? You could call these coincidences, too, but I would rather choose to view them as a little help from the Great Artist who created us and this incredible masterpiece of a Uni-verse.

What I’m learning is that when we choose to look with the eyes of faith and tune in to the voice of the Divine, what we seek will find us. What our souls desire will come to us with grace and ease.  What once seemed impossible becomes a piece of cake.

And perhaps you are reading this blog thinking it was just the message you needed to hear today (if not, thanks for reading ‘til here anyways). Coincidence? You tell me.

Much love,

Right on time, and yes, I needed this, and it’s not a coincidence. I don’t believe in those, either. I also think synchronicity is a sign of being taken care of. I always smile and go on when I witness synchronicity, beacuse no matter what’s going on, it shows me that it’s all right. Everything happens for a reason, even the bad things, and that’s why – if we have the eyes to see it – they turn into good things. All we have to do is trust and live in the now, beacuse now is all we have.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    Much love

I said this exact same thing to my friend last night. She said I would find a partner and co-parent in my life soon and I told her I was definitely not looking for a man, but that I know THAT’s when one will walk right into my life. I like this phenomenon, because if it happens, great, if not, that’s fine too. It stems from being happy within, I believe, because you put the energies you want to fulfill into the universe.
    Thanks for sharing your story!

Great story, thanks for sharing! It really is true if you stop and observe, there are signs the universe sends, I don’t believe in coincidences either 😉 I’ve seen this happen recently, when you stop looking for things it gives them a chance to find you! Thanks again, love your posts as always.

    •  Thanks Tina! Yes, when we let go and leave room for the Uni-verse to lend a hand, anything is possible! Much love 🙂

Loved this.  Yes, the Universe speaks to us and loves us so very much.  The connection runs deep through each and everyone of us.  What freedom to know that we aren’t in this alone.  Wish more people could stop fighting it and just be grateful for each and every day.  The signs and whispers are there if we’d only listen.

    •  Beautifully said Meg! The more people that listen, the louder and more clear the whispers and signs will become!

I read this and honestly i keep seeking, but im not letting go of the past it should be a peice of cake but for what ever reason i make it hard…While reading what you have wrote Chris a song came on the radio and it brought up emotion for me.. Its hard to let go of what one has become accustom to .. I know though the time has come and that time is now..I enjoy reading your daily devotions and thank-you for being you…

No coincidence Chris, not at all. Thanks for the “ah ha” moment. I have to share this with my friend.

    •  You’re welcome Tamterell! Thanks for reading and for sharing 🙂

  • Hi Chris,
I love your insightful writing and I have more than often felt this in all the positive areas of my life. I have a question though. Does this also work in reverse? For negative things? I am a student in the US and I was afraid I had breast cancer (have family history) and all the possibilities – how my boyfriend would react, whether I would need to go back to my home country and leave my parents in debt because of all the medical bills they would have to foot in addition to the school tuition they’d already paid so I could study in the US and whether I would have to abandon school and my degree and all the plans I had. Fortunately the doctor told me I was fine but to keep him posted if I felt any physical changes. After that I heard two stories, one was my advisor asking all of us to be extra nice to a person in our lab whose girlfriend had been diagnosed with cancer which was probably terminal (and he’d become depressed <- this is what I was afraid would happen to my bf), and then an email from a student in an email account I happen to screen for another professor where she said she'd been diagnosed with cervical cancer and could not come in attend classes for a while because she had to undergo more tests. Both stories reflected my own fears… …and as I write this I see what it is about. The world is reflecting back to me what I am fearing within…Never thought asking a question on one of your posts would give me an answer. I just need to focus on the positive side of things and start planning my life with the gusto that I'd lost for the past couple of weeks. Thank you Chris! 🙂

    •  Mayuri, I love that you answered your own question! Glad that this post got your thinking and digging and brought you to a place of finding what you were seeking within! Much love 🙂

Focusing on God brings what we seek to us. It may look different from what we are expecting, but it is glorious none-the-less. And, as you say, it comes with grace and ease. Thank you for your beautiful writings.

    •  Thanks for the kind words Kathleen and for your insightful contribution! Much love 🙂

Very nice…one should read it evry so often to be reminded of faith and syncronicity more often

    The Great Artist—LOVE it!! 🙂

    • Credit goes to Julia Cameron for that one. She’s one of my favorite authors on creativity and spirituality!

  • i was meant to read your inspiring message. i just broke off a year long relationship with a decent guy who has no time for me. i’m heartbroken and hurt i have to start the search again. but after reading your post, i’m going to try to believe it.

    • Consider the possibility that there was a lesson in the relationship that you just let go and that once you have embraced that, something even better will  show up in the space that you have created. Wishing you all the best 🙂

  • Myst>.<

Certainly,  message that I really needed>.< I would simply sit back and relax.. Let the Divine do the magic:).. Thank you very much:)

I LOVE when I experience this phenomenon- meaning, the connection of everything in the Universe. It really is so amazing that when we let go we can allow ourselves to be at the right place at the right time. Someone I know always says that when you chase something it will just fly away. How awesome would it be to live with this idea of trust every day? Knowing that all that you desire wants you and that you only need to just chill out and allow it to happen naturally! I wish there was a magic pill or spell that would make it so easy. Ok, totally joking about the quick fix. 😉

Thanks for your post. I always enjoy reading them!

Sometimes we need to have fun in the moment and forget about what we think we wanted… That way when it comes its not that much of a big deal but we are still happy that we got it.  I guess thats what people mean when they say visualize it and then just let it go  🙂

  • This is really inspiring, Chris.  A very simple story but an eye opener. One thing I’m learning right now is learning to let it go. If I want/need something, I will visualize it and feel that I have it already and move on with my life.
Looking back, I’ve realized that my previous jobs and relationships, I found them (or should I say they found me) when I wasn’t looking.

    Thank you!

Exactly the message I needed to hear! Thank you!

I love this story and your insights, it is something I needed to come across. I have been struggling with this for sometime now. I have been seeing someone but they are not the “one” for me, I know that but I haven’t cut them loose yet (though it is fading into the sunset on it’s own, which is okay.) I am in an amazing place in my life; very happy and very blessed. I feel very confident and comfortable with myself and know very much what I want, down to great little details that I envision. Therein lies my problem, I know very much what I want, don’t necessarily care what the package he comes in, so I find myself being impatient wanting to find him, my “one” so we can get started on our life together and have as many years as possible to grow, explore and spend together. This unfortunately has me dwelling on it, thinking about it, trying to figure out how to get there or how to find him or help him find me. I I think I just need turn it over to God, have faith that he will put my “one” in my life at some point and until then I just need to enjoy the amazing life he has given me and just be open and aware, so when it happens I am ready and don’t miss the opportunity. It is hard to let go of the reins, to not want to try to control things but think they saying “Let Go, Let God”, applies has much towards finding love, as anywhere else.
