How do you take care of yourself? Are you aware that self care adds huge value to your productivity? Taking a bath, turning off your phone, playing your favorite music and kicking back. How much time do you take to slow down and relax? Being human is already a full time job, and then we add to it our career and relationships. It’s no wonder we don’t have the time and energy to create the life we want. We must find a way to balance work with “me” time.

Self care is essential to living a balanced life. And a balanced life is a happy, successful, loving life. You spend so much time thinking about what to do, how to do it, what you want and how to get it, where you want to be, and how to get there. If you are feeling run down, it is because you are not taking time to treat yourself like a Queen or King.
Without a self care practice you will find yourself sick, depressed, out of shape and irritated by the next seemingly happy person who sends a smile your way. All the while wondering why your hard work doesn’t seem to be paying off. Only with the balance that comes with practicing self care is it possible to thrive.
The benefits of a self care practice are evident the moment you put it to use. So, to jump-start a new option for your Self Care Practice, here are three things you can start to do today to build a foundation that supports your life.
STEP 1 – TAKE YOUR TIME - Practice “SOUL SPACE”
No matter how busy your life is, you have 20 minutes everyday to relax. Your new assignment is to take 20 minutes for what we call “SOUL SPACE”. Turn off your phone, computer, television, and dim the lights. Get into a bath, light a few candles, play your favorite music and do nothing! Close your eyes and let all the chatter in your mind rest. Relax, breathe, enjoy, be grateful. And if you don’t have a bathtub, find a comfortable place to lay by yourself.
The Benefits: For all you women, this is the perfect way to connect with your feminine. If you are working full time, you are exerting a lot of energy making things happen from your masculine energy. That’s okay, but be sure to balance it with the allowing, trusting, artful energy of the feminine. For you single ladies, Soul Space is a man magnet. He will smell your confidence, sexiness and peacefulness after you take your Soul Space. And for you men, you’ll benefit big time by touching base with your feminine as well. It does not matter what your gender or sexual orientation is, touching base with your feminine is medicine for all of us! You’ll find yourself more clear, focused, and available. Soul Space is a big YES to loving yourself.
STEP 2 – SAY YES (even when you are saying NO)
The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. So, be sure you are always saying YES to yourself. Often our schedules are filled with unnecessary crap. We are running around, doing far too much and find ourselves committing to things because we just can’t say NO. Well, that’s not a good reason to be somewhere. And you’ll likely be miserable the entire time if you are not excited to be there in the first place. A self care practice connects you to a deeper, more sober thought process when making decisions. From now on, you will make commitments only when it is a YES to you, even if that means saying NO to someone else.
The Benefits: You will be doing more of what you like to do once you free up all the time you are spending doing crap you don’t want to do. That will make you feel happier. You will free up time to be of service and spend more quality time with the people you love. You will be less stressed, and more in the present moment everywhere you go. This makes you more appealing to be around, too.
STEP 3 – FILL YOUR TANK
Are you filling your tank with junk or high quality energy? What you eat has EVERYTHING to do with the quality of your life. Every body is different, but for everyone, sugars and processed foods are a quick jolt of toxic energy, like a drug. Before you eat anything, from now on, ask yourself, “Will this clog me or will this cleanse me?” (Thank you for that tip, Tony Robbins!) Add more greens and veggies to your life. Drink warm water with lemon in the morning and gradually switch from coffee to green tea for a more high functioning, alkaline body. Let yourself cheat every once in a while, but not everyday boo!
The Benefits: How would you like to clear up your skin, tighten your waistline, have more energy to do what you love? Clean eating is a miracle worker. You will need less sleep, and want to be more active. Eating clean also means having a highly functioning immune system, so that cold will finally stop bugging you. Watch out, because before long, you’ll start feeling like a superhero.
To Sum It All Up: Give yourself permission to do something awesome for yourself. Soul Space, Say Yes, Fill Your Tank. Sit, let go of concerns, tasks, lists. Chill, breathe, smile, enjoy spending a moment with yourself. Try these three steps for the next week and you will see great benefits.
