Wouldn’t it be nice not to have so many things in life have to line up before we could feel happy? When things go the way we want, it is so easy to feel happiness and contentment — yet when things are crazy and off kilter, we somehow become miserable.
If the nature of life is constant change, how are we ever going to find happiness? If life is full of change — and one’s happiness is based on certainty or control — how will the two ever fit together? If we are spirits living in a human body — how will we ever be able to find the happiness and peace we so desperately yearn for? Is it even possible?
If we are spirits living in a human body — is it even possible to find happiness here on the earth that we walk — or will we simply have to wait until we die? I believe from the bottom of my soul the answer is we can indeed be happy and content on this earth — but we must know where to seek and find happiness. We must understand that the world in which we live is focused on survival and fear — yet the place our spirit authentically comes from is focused on peace, love, gratitude and understanding.
If we want to be truly happy, doesn’t it make sense to make sure we devote time and energy to things authentic to our spirit? Focusing on things that make us feel connected, loving, peaceful, grateful and understanding — instead of waiting for these feelings to come our way? Doesn’t it make sense that we would fuel these feelings? To create them, instead of waiting for them to happen once in awhile after certain things fall into place?
So many of you reading this will be nodding your head with an underlying question, “Of course this makes sense — and if we know this to be true, why do we not make it a priority to do so? Why do we not prioritize and chisel out the time to focus on that which can get us what we really want and strive everyday to create?”
Does the answer to this question really matter? Or does it matter more to make a change, create a habit — and focus on connecting to things that enrich our spirit — so that we may feel more supported, safe and at home in a world that is not familiar to us?
What things make you feel connected to feeling safe? Full? Excited? Peaceful?
Supported? Relaxed? Connected? Strong? It’s so vital to remember that all of the feelings and experiences we seek sit inside of ourselves — and we need to make sure to fuel them so that we may be able to experience them.
I invite you to take the time to make a list of the things that you can do to feed your spirit. If you would be so kind as to comment back to this blog and share with others, you will give them ideas and inspire them as well. That would be fabulous! Allow yourself to understand that as you partake in spending time devoted consistently to these things of the spirit, you will feel more at home in this crazy world in which we live. You will feel supported by life even if crazy unexpected turns throw your world upside down. This life we live is temporary, yet our spirits soar into eternity. As we commit to focusing on things of the spirit, we will naturally focus less on the drama that sits before us in our lives.
If we truly want to experience connection, love, support and being alive here on our journey of life, let’s ask ourselves every morning — putting our left hand on our stomach and our right hand on our heart, taking a big deep breath in through the nose and exhaling out through the mouth — asking our spirit (not our body), “What can I do to allow myself to feel more alive, supported and loving today?” If you are consistent with this small practice — and take some time to listen — I promise you — you will get some very cool answers.
One of my favorite things on my personal list to feed spirit is to focus on three things I am grateful for every morning and evening. Each evening on Twitter and Facebook I hold Gratitude Parties where people all over the world share three things they are grateful for. Something wonderful happens when we shift our focus on our blessings and away from our problems. Come join me! You are welcome anytime!
This life we live is given to us to enjoy as much as we possibly can.
If we find ourselves bitching and not enjoying the day ahead — let’s remember to stop and reboot our system.
Each and every moment of our lives is truly blessed.
From the bottom of my Heart to yours,
